Ghoulish Family Activities for Your October Camping Trip
October is one of the most popular times of the year to visit YOGI BEAR'S JELLYSTONE PARK ™ in Robert, Louisiana! Ghouls and goblins come to life at our camp-resort, and we can't wait to see you for spooky, fun-filled weekends all month long! Make your trip a spirited occasion with these fall-themed activities your entire family will enjoy playing during your October camping trip.
This activity can be played over several days and is a great way for little "cubs" to reflect on everything they experienced during their camping trip. Start from scratch by using a blank Bingo card template like this one. Fill the cards with things you are most likely to find, see, or do during your stay. Add activities your family is already planning to do like sitting around a campfire, making s'mores, or going on a hike. You can even add events at Jellystone Park you plan to participate in, like dancing at the Rec Center or trick-or-treating with fellow campers. Watch as everyone in your group races to get bingo by the end of the weekend. What's fun about this game is can be adapted for any kind of camping trip, regardless of the time of year!
Though it requires some assembly and crafting before your trip, this game is sure to delight festive campers for years to come. Decorate a cornhole board with spider webs, ghosts, or jack-o-lanterns. Have family members draw ghost faces or Frankenstein's monster with permanent markers on bean bags before throwing them. Or, replace bean bags altogether with stuffed or fake pumpkins for another fall-themed touch to the game. Avoid tossing real mini-pumpkins, though, unless you want to clean up a sticky mess off your brand-new cornhole board.
Glow-in-the-dark Ring Toss
A perfect game to play during a night under the stars to accompany a campfire! Its easy setup and minimal supplies will have your entire family wanting to play this game every year. Take a few bottles you may have on hand (wine bottles or 2-liter soda bottles will do the trick) and wrap glow-in-the-dark duct tape around them. During set up, fill the bottles up with a bit of sand so they don't fall over once you start playing the game. Snap a pack of glow-stick bracelets to use for the rings, and let the fun begin! A full description of the game can be found here.
Halloween Campfire Treats
Give your campfire treats a ghoulish spin this Halloween with spooky-themed s'mores! It's the perfect seasonal twist on a traditional camping treat. To make them, simply use chocolate graham crackers, fun-sized candy bars, and ghost-shaped marshmallows for roasting. If you want to stick with roasting regular marshmallows, bring along some orange, green, or purple sprinkles to add a pop of color before consuming. Or, consider making this Halloween-themed s'more dip that can easily be warmed up on a campfire.
