There are lots of reasons why camping is our favorite activity in the world! From hiking trails to watching the stars at night, a day in the woods is downright good for the soul.
While we love everything about the camping life, we also love the amazing food that comes along with it! From s'mores and roast hot dogs to campfire popcorn, food has never tasted quite so good.
It might still be a little cold outside, but springtime in Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park is the perfect season to enjoy some campfire classics both old and new. So stack up that firewood, whip out those cast iron pans, and let's get started on these easy springtime campfire recipes for the whole family!
Campfire Recipes For Spring
There are two fundamental steps for preparing a campfire meal for the family: prep and packing. Plan out the meals you want to have before you hit the high country, and bring all necessary utensils, tools, and ingredients along with you. Better yet, do some extra food prep or packing by chopping, cutting, splitting, and marinating all your ingredients for future use. Now that's what we call being a Sous-chef!
Here are some of our favorite family campfire recipes for the cooler spring months!
1. The Hobo Dinner
If there's one thing more fun than cooking your own campfire food, it's cooking without making a mess! Hobo dinners are the perfect way to do just that, using wrapped aluminum foil instead of cooking plates. No muss, no fuss, and definitely no bother!

2. Sheepherder's Breakfast
Waking up after a long day of hiking? Start your morning off on the right foot with this delicious protein-packed treat! By flash cooking these eggs and potatoes over the fire, you'll be doing yourself a huge favor (and the rest of the family, too).
In terms of tools, you'll need to have a cast iron skillet, some cooking oil, and a good spatula. For your ingredients, you'll need:
- Potatoes (shredded into hash browns)
- Cheddar cheese

3. Bean 'N Ham Soup
Spring is a time for soups and salads, so why not bring some down to the tent with you? This recipe is super simple to make, and downright delicious to eat! Don't forget to pack some bread or crackers to finish off the meal!
If you've already got a big pot and a good stirring stick and ladle, you're halfway there! Pre-pack this simple list of ingredients:
- A pound of Navy beans
- 2 onions
- 8 cups of water
- 2 smoked ham hocks
