Top 5 Cajun Meal Ideas For The Jellystone Cook-Off!
Our annual Cajun Celebration is just a couple of weeks away! Get inspired with one of these five dishes to compete in the Cook-Off. May the best meal win!
What Cajun Cook-Off could be complete without gumbo? This traditional meal has been associated with Louisiana for decades and contains the 'holy trinity of Cajun food: celery, bell peppers, and onions. Creole foods like Gumbo are very competitive dishes around Jellystone Park, so if you're planning on entering one of these into the contest, you'd better have some finger-licking good ideas!
The best part of making a meal like gumbo is quick cooking. You can whip up a serving of this thick soup within thirty minutes or less, or maybe even just an hour for a large batch. For busy folks who want to join our festivities, gumbo is the perfect option.
Here's a quick recipe that might point you in the right direction.
The Cajun dish of Jambalaya is just like gumbo, but with more rice instead. This tasty dish isn't complete without some spicy sausage, boiled shrimp, and plenty of onions, peppers, and celery.
Perhaps the most delicious part of Jambalaya is its thick set of seasonings, including paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne. You can pick up packets of premade spice, or you can even try to make a concoction of your own. In any case, don't forget that Andouille sausage!

If there's one food we can't live without, it's crawfish. Steam 'em, fry 'em, boil 'em: the choice is up to you!
There are lots of great crawfish recipes out there to try. Why not start with the basics?
What makes this dish different from Jambalaya and gumbo, you ask? The smothering technique!
This meal incorporates hot broth, shrimp, and rice in the most delicious way possible. Check out this recipe to see what we're talking about!
Shrimp & Grits
What do you get when you combine delicious fried shrimp with buttery grits? A Cajun meal made in heaven!
Shrimp and grits is a popular meal of choice here in Robert LA and is one of the most iconic as well. All that's needed for this simple dish is milk, cheese, grits, and shrimp, not including some of the fun extras like spices and onions.
This is a meal that works for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and is an all-around classic! This recipe may be a great place to start for first-timers.
