3 Summer Safety Camping Tips from YOGI BEAR™

June has arrived bringing summer vacation, more hours of daylight, and climbing temperatures. The arrival of June also means that there are plenty of fun events and weekends happening at YOGI BEAR’S JELLYSTONE PARK™ here in Robert, Louisiana. Super Soaker Blasting Weekend is coming up this weekend, and we’ll celebrate Father’s Day at the campgrounds next weekend! As families enjoy the great outdoors this summer, it is important to be safe!

For that reason, YOGI BEAR™ has three great summer safety camping tips to share with all of his favorite campers:

  • Stay hydrated: Dehydration can have serious consequences. To avoid suffering from dehydration, it’s important to drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially in hot Louisiana heat (unless otherwise directed by your doctor). Before camping, remember to pack several reusable water bottles. While enjoying the great outdoors, drink the recommended amounts of water and follow these helpful tips to stay cool. To make water bottles more convenient to carry, invest in water bottle sling . According to the Mayo Clinic, feeling thirsty likely means your body is already feeling dehydrated. To learn more about symptoms of dehydration, visit the Mayo Clinic’s website.

  • Apply sunscreen: Wearing sunscreen is important for reducing one’s risk of skin cancer and a very uncomfortable sunburn. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends using an SPF of 30 or higher. It should also be water-resistant and labeled “broad-spectrum.” Be sure to slather it onto all exposed skin, and apply it about 15 minutes before going out in the sun. Reapplication is also crucial! The recommendation is to reapply about every two hours. Finally, hats are also great for protecting scalps from the sun’s harsh rays. For more information from the AAD, visit their website.

  • Watch where you step: Spending time outside has many benefits, but it’s important to be careful where you step. To avoid brush-ups with plants like poison ivy or poison oak, first get familiar with which plants to avoid. Wear protective clothing that covers exposed skin (keep it lightweight in summer, so you don’t overheat).

Yogi Bear wants all of his campers to enjoy their weekends at the campgrounds—be sure to stay safe while exploring, playing, and relaxing with the family. There are plenty of family-friendly activities and celebrations coming up this month. Be sure to book your next stay at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park soon!
